A new musical is getting ready to turn its UK audiences into part of the show, with a Tony Award-winning director bringing a celebration of Scottish music and dance home after its acclaimed North American run.
CEILIDH will make its UK premiere at Pitlochry Festival Theatre from 7 to 17 October, forming part of Alan Cumming’s first season as Artistic Director before the production heads south for a four-week residency at Shoreditch Town Hall and UK tour.
Created by Scottish writing duo Scott Gilmour and Claire McKenzie, the show is directed and choreographed by Oh! Mary! director Sam Pinkleton, while Alan Cumming is also involved as a co-producer.
CEILIDH brings the audience into the gathering as a live band plays and a caller leads the evening, with traditional dancing gradually making way for a family story about why this particular celebration matters so much.
Scott Gilmour will lead the cast as Ramsay, with Kyle Gardiner appearing as the alternate Ramsay, while David Rankine plays Leo and Kirsty Findlay takes on Euna; George Drennan and Annie Grace are also among the company, alongside Rori Hawthorn and Jerome Lincoln.
